Island Living: Long Island Beaches you need to visit

The unofficial start of summer is days away and it’s hard to have anything else on our minds other than the beach and shoreline. Long Islander’s from Great Neck to Montauk have miles of boardwalks, beach trails, waterfront restaurants and beautiful sunrises and sunsets to enjoy.

Check out some of the local beaches in our Huntington area and beyond below.

Beyond Huntington:

The Hamptons/Montauk

Coopers Beach, 268 Meadow Lane, Southampton
Coopers Beach is rated among the Top Ten Beaches in America. The beach has a $40 daily parking fee and full facilities including concession, bathhouse, chair and umbrella rentals.

Ditch Plains Beach, 18 Ditch Plains Road, Montauk
The very END! Located at the tip of the South Fork, you’ll find some of the best waves for surfing on the Island. Surf, boogie and paddle board rentals are available.

Kirk Park Beach, 95 South Emerson Avenue, Montauk
Low-key beach with locals and visitors alike. Parking is free and there are plenty of food a beverage options just a few minute walk away right in town.

Main Beach, 104 Ocean Avenue, East Hampton
Also rated among the Top Ten Beaches in American. The beach has weekday parking of $20 a day. Lifeguards are on duty all summer and fireworks shows are scheduled throughout the session.

 


The Southshore

Fire Island National Seashore, Burma Road, Fire Island
Reachable via ferry from Patchogue or Sayville. 26 miles of barrier island with dunes, maritime forests and unspoiled beaches.

Jones Beach State Park, Ocean Parkway South State Parkway, Exit 18, Wantagh
Park has 6.5 miles of ocean beach, two swimming pools, fishing and boating, and a two mile boardwalk.

Robert Moses State Park, Robert Moses Causeway, Fire Island
Five miles of white sandy beaches with a beach shop, fishing and surfing areas, and 18 hole golf course. Park features boardwalk from field 5 that will bring you to a stunning lighthouse.
